I am retired due to becoming legally blind. 20/480 L 20/280 R I am not sightless but couldn't tell if you were male or female, black or white five feet from.... I started playing EQ in 1999 and then moved to GW three months after release, then into Lotro for the early beta on Arwen..... since then I have beta'ed, demo'ed, or trial'ed about 20 other games. the game I like the most is Oblivion, then Morrowind they are FUN (sometimes frustrating as they are so HUGE and trying to find ONE NPC to talk to...) compared to what EQ and Lotro have become grind fests for the gear.... I listen or read 2-5 books a week and love word games having fun daily on Pogo matching wits.... I listen (free movies are usually too dark for me to see much) and/or watch a movie a day usually comedies, my favorite tv shows would be Dead Like Me, Monk, 24... my site has references for blind/seniors/disabled for my area local regional national, the most comprehensive list of cctv devices, hand held or desk top, my online security and online movie sites as well...

by Xyderias on July 21, 2010

in LOTRO F2P Beta

Please Note: These screenshots were inadvertently posted due to a miscommunication between Turbine and Mordor or Bust. We regret the error. The beta NDA is still being enforced. Turbine has graciously allowed MoB to continue to host these images, so consider this a sneak peek. ALL items in the LOTRO Store are subject to removal/change/etc.

Want to know what is available in the LOTRO Store in the beta? You’ll find screenshots of all items that are currently available in the Premium Items category after the break. I hadn’t heard of this game so did an “info page” about it (have info pages on about 90?) games :-)

game synopsis from: http://hotk.perfectworld.com/gameinfo/story

China is in the midst of a bloody civil war. From the countless skirmishes, three leaders stand poised to take leadership and unite the country under one banner. Will it be Cao Cao of Wei, the ruthless Lui Bei of Shu or Sun Quan of Wu?

As a soldier in training you have no affiliations, it is up to you to pick a side and lead them to victory. Determine your play style on the fly with your choice of 18 historic weapons and ride your trusty steed into fierce battles. Non-combat professions will allow access to limited resources not found anywhere else, but make haste, the battle is upon us!

Rise through the ranks and lead your loyal army on your quest to end one of the bloodiest periods in history and unite all of China.

Even if YOU (like me) use no exploits, doing the newish tournaments with these exploits around, might just mean you are wasting your time if you were trying to post a good time and be high up on the leader boards…………

author: TheCorbinator

Hey Turbine, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful idea of the Tournament/Events system. Very very cool, and very well thought out. With that being said, I’ve discovered some exploits and bugs within the system that I’d like to outline in detail to preserve the integrity of this tournament.

The Tournament & Events System

What are Tournaments & events?

Tournaments & Events are new community features coming to LOTRO this fall. Similar to a public quest system or challenge system. Tournaments will offer a variety of events and competitions for those who wish to participate. Players who participate in Tournaments may win community renown, badges for display on player profile pages at mylotro.com, or even in-game items, gold, or Skirmish Marks!

How Do I Join?

Keep an eye on mylotro.com/tournaments for a list of upcoming events along with the information you’ll need to participate. Every event will have at least one round with a start and end time, along with an activity that players must complete to qualify for the round. Once the event begins, simply do the action required and we’ll automatically enter your character in the event – there’s nothing else you need to do.

Casual Stroll to Mordor
http://www.casualstrolltomordor.com/2010/07/lua-script-coming-to-turbine/

Posted on 13. Jul, 2010 by Goldenstar

Meghan “Patience” Rodberg was a special guest on Stuncast episode 5 released yesterday. Meghan announced (at about 37 minutes in) that LOTRO will be adding the use of Lua script to allow player created add-ons (called mods) for the game.

If you’re not aware, Lua is a programming language that allows someone to create a mod that alters the interface or even use information from the game depending on Turbine’s preferences. Scripts like this are widely used to create mods for World of Warcraft and other games.

Before you freak out let me give you my experience using mods in World of Warcraft. For the most part, they are wonderful and optional. Not all mods are winners but find the ones you like and work well and you’ve got yourself a great enhancement to your game! Blizzard even takes successful mods and incorporates their functions into the base game from time to time when they find a mod that works really well and really improves the player experience.

I want to stress that this will only work with the functions and information in LOTRO that Turbine allows. We will have to wait and see what information is released regarding programming specifically for LOTRO mods but this is big news!

There are many helpful Lua Programming booksavailable out there for Lua scripting that may help you if you are interested in learning the language. There are some books specific to World of Warcraft scripting which you may want to avoid until we’re clear on what rules Turbine will set for us.

I’m very curious to see what mods players can come up with!

Two major updates are coming to Lord of the Rings Online this fall: the recently announced free-to-play conversion and the introduction of a new playable area just south of Eregion, Enedwaith. The new playable content is a good way to explain how free-to-play will affect the game. VIP members (those who pay a flat monthly fee and those who are Lifetime subscribers) will get access to the new area, the epic quest line associated with it and all the regular quests in the land. Those playing for free will be able to travel in the new lands and complete the epic quest line, but they will need to buy the regional quest pack to access that part of the new content.

PC Gamer was given access to the full list of cash shop items in the upcoming free-to-play version of Lord of the Rings Online. In addition to the usual cosmetic upgrades and XP boosts, LOTRO will be offering a few more unique purchases, such as unlocking additional auction house slots. Here are full details on three examples of cash shop items we saw during our E3 demo. Keep in mind that this is a beta and the prices are subject to change. (And that Josh is not a photographer by trade – Ed).

What do you think of Onlive?

Online is a Game Delivery Service that streams games to your computer or television that will be going “LIVE” at E3 on June 17th.

Much like Steam, you can buy your games through OnLive and cloud-saving of games you purchased. Although this is a monthly service (of $19.99/mo.), you more importantly don’t have to install games locally, or worry about Updates, or meet the minimum hardware requirements to play a game. You just fire up your browser and instantly play the latest games on the highest settings even on the oldest of hardware with integrated Intel Graphics. Everything in the game is rendered Server-side at OnLive and streamed to your computer using ultra-high, yet low-latency data compression.

http://www.onlive.com/

Is this the worst time to think about a new computer, what with SSD’s just coming in or go with the older but now very cheap large HD’s?

In the lotro forums the few betas that are being mentioned are Tera and Fallen earth, any other games that look promising?

Today is an important day for LOTRO: we’ve announced that this fall, LOTRO will begin offering a Free-to-Play option! Players will be able to download the game and adventure in Middle-earth for free. With Free-to-Play comes the addition of the LOTRO Store, where players will have immediate in-game access to a wide variety of special items, account services, and convenience items.

The best part is – as existing subscribers you’re automatically enrolled in our VIP program! As a VIP you’ll continue to get unlimited access to the game and all of the content you already enjoy, in addition to some extra perks! We know you’re curious how all of this will work and what it all means for you personally, so here are some handy links to all of the details:

  • Official LOTRO Free-to-Play Press Release
  • A letter from Kate Paiz, Executive Producer LOTRO
  • FAQ
  • VIP Chart
Still have questions? Here’s a quick FAQ about the key points of LOTRO Free-to-Play:

Is this the same model you used with DDO?

It’s very similar in a large number of ways. The basic structure is the same with some changes made to support LOTRO’s different game world and wide-open environment. Customer levels, the LOTRO Store, and other aspects of LOTRO Free-to-Play are all very similar to those of Dungeons and Dragons Online®: Eberron Unlimited™.

I already subscribe to LOTRO. Is there any benefit to staying a subscriber?

Of course! Once the game goes live you’ll keep all your current privileges, and also accrue 500 free Turbine Points per month to spend as you wish. We also have a set of Loyalty Reward Special Offers just for our veteran players – as long as you maintain your subscription in good standing you may be eligible for up to 3,000 points. If you stay active over the summer you will also earn an additional bonus of 500 Turbine Points per month until launch! For more details see the Loyalty Reward Special Offer Terms & Conditions for full details.

I have a lifetime subscription to LOTRO. What will Free-to-Play mean for me?

As a lifetime subscriber to LOTRO, you will keep all of your membership privileges and are automatically upgraded to VIP status. You will receive 500 Free Turbine Points every month like the other VIPs, but you do not have to pay a monthly fee since you are a lifetime member. All you have to do is keep playing the game and visit the LOTRO Store to spend your free Turbine Points. Lifetime members may also qualify for a special one-time Loyalty Reward of 1,000 Turbine Points. See the Loyalty Reward Special Offer Terms & Conditions for full details.

I am a LOTRO Founder. What will Free-to-Play mean for me?

As a LOTRO Founder, you automatically become a VIP and will keep all of your membership privileges as long as you pay your monthly fee. You will automatically receive 500 Free Turbine Points every month and you can spend them at your leisure in the LOTRO Store. Founding members may also qualify for a special one-time Loyalty Reward of 500 Turbine Points. See the Loyalty Reward Special Offer Terms & Conditions for full details.

Will there be a Free-to-Play Beta and when will it start?

Yes! The Beta will start in the very near future. We’ll begin accepting signups immediately at www.lotro.com/betasignup!

I’m a new or returning player. How do I sign up for Beta?

Start by registering at www.lotro.com/betasignup. We’ll select entrants from that list once beta starts.

I’m an existing customer. How do I sign up for the Beta?

Existing subscribers do not need to register to apply for the beta – we’ll randomly invite subscribers who have been active in the last 30 days and have an account in good standing throughout the beta. If you wish to register at www.lotro.com/betasignup that will count as an extra entry and may increase your chance of being selected for participation.

Is there any way to increase my chance of getting into the beta?

Sure! Follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook! We’ll give out special beta entry codes to our fans via social media – so give yourself the best chance of getting in and make sure to keep an eye on Twitter and Facebook for updates. Continue reading »
