I like to read, besides play games, and run this site.  One of the programs I like to use, is Microsoft’s Reader format, it comes in the LIT extension.  It allows me to turn it into an audiobook, allows me to bookmark pages, and overall, it’s a nice format. I don’t like reading in PDF, if I don’t have to.  Don’t even much like TXT, RTF, or DOC formats, though Open Office has no problem opening these files. Occasionally a book will come in HTML, but even that isn’t my choice.

Now for some of you this may come as no surprise, but if someone provides an EPUB version – this is just a renamed ZIP (and then opened), you can use Calibre (freeware), to change it to your favorite format, in this case LIT for me.  It works for Windows, Macintosh, as well as Linux. You can also read them on your iPhone or Android based phone, with the EPUB format, using the proper program. Aldiko is for the Android and Stanza for the iPhone.

Most ebook sellers, as well as Google, support this format. Google has more than 500,000 public domain titles in the EPUB format and Project Gutenberg has over 20,000 titles. There are also plenty of torrent sites which have many eBooks as well.
