While a few people think the f2p should be f2t (free to try), or forever trial … You could get to level 50 if you were REALLY patient.

Some things in the forums:

No Lotteries for a few weeks

The next two weeks are going to be really crazy around here!

PAX Prime starts next Friday and quite a few of us are going (Come say HI!).
Free to Play launches on the 10th (8th for Subscribers).
There are a lot of changes coming for the community sites (you’re going to like them!)

With all of this and more going on, the lotteries are likely to run up against a lot of downtime, server config changes, updates, and heavy loads. Rather than risk players losing items or lotteries not going off as planned for whatever reasons, we’ve decided to postpone additional lotteries until things calm down a bit.

They aren’t going away forever, just for a few weeks. Duwis has assured me that, once things settle down, we’ll have all sorts of shiny new lottery tools to work with and possibly some of the changes you’ve been asking for. Not to mention items from the LOTRO Store will be added to the lotteries!

Current Subscribers and returning players will be able to access LOTRO Free-to-Play on the North American servers starting September 8th! The servers will be brought down on September 7th in preparation for the head start program. When they return on September 8th all current subscribers and returning customers will have full access to all Free-to-play features, the Volume III, Book 2 epic story, and the new Enedwaith region two full days before the official launch! This is my work*, from no where else, but unlike some of the postings about Moria, or Mirkwood at the main forums, I had no helpers, but hopefully I didn’t miss anything.

As always, this being BETA info there might be changes before this goes live!

Enedwaith Poi’s

Enedwaith fast facts:
Zone: Enedwaith. Areas inside zone: Fordirith, Windfells, Gloomglens, Mournshaws, Nan Laeglin, Thror’s Coomb, and Lich Bluffs. Factions: Grey Company, and Algraig.
Epic Quest Volume 3, Book 2 starts at: Elrond in Rivendell (must have completed Vol. 3 Bk 1 to acquire)
Tip: in Beta, you could not activate the dwarf-marker in Thorin’s Hall before discovering Enedwaith, but you could activate the Hobbits Lamp at The Bullroarer’s Statue in Greenfields, Brockenboring, The Shire.
Getting to Enedwaith: From Echad Mirobel, Eregion travel south-east following the river on the Tham Mirdain (the Library) side of the river.

With Turbine recently being bought out by Warner Brothers you would think that, besides making LOTRO free2play, they would set their sight on also making Asheron’s Call free2play. Alas, it is not so. It seems instead that they have chosen to upgrade it a bit, to try to make it more appealing to more players. One of the things they are doing is to upgrade textures (which some players from the Ac-Emu team did themselves, several years ago). You can see some of the before and after screenshots here.

They are also adding more playable races. The first I want to mention, are the shadow people, you can “shed your skin” and play one of these new characters.

The Shadows are here! Shadows are now a playable race! You can choose from two different races of Shadow. Find out more about how this all came to be by reading a special backstory written by former AC Dev Orion, and can check out the lore and the Teaser Video here

Sadly, the video for the above, makes me want to steer clear of the game even more. Seems to be the kind of video I would make – and I admit it, I am terrible at making vids.

It seems both ZAM, and Fileplanet are having offers to get in to the Lotro Enedwaith, F2P Beta.

From forum postings the zam offer requires their paid subscription, while the fileplanet has a free offer (includes 1000 turbine store points) , and a better (includes 5000 turbine store points) offer for their paid subscribers

ALL FilePlanet users are invited to play! FilePlanet subscribers will receive a 5000 points code to be used in the beta. All other users will receive a 1000 points code.

The Tournament & Events System

What are Tournaments & events?

Tournaments & Events are new community features coming to LOTRO this fall. Similar to a public quest system or challenge system. Tournaments will offer a variety of events and competitions for those who wish to participate. Players who participate in Tournaments may win community renown, badges for display on player profile pages at mylotro.com, or even in-game items, gold, or Skirmish Marks!

How Do I Join?

Keep an eye on mylotro.com/tournaments for a list of upcoming events along with the information you’ll need to participate. Every event will have at least one round with a start and end time, along with an activity that players must complete to qualify for the round. Once the event begins, simply do the action required and we’ll automatically enter your character in the event – there’s nothing else you need to do.

Meghan “Patience” Rodberg was a special guest on Stuncast episode 5 released yesterday. Meghan announced (at about 37 minutes in) that LOTRO will be adding the use of Lua script to allow player created add-ons (called mods) for the game.

If you’re not aware, Lua is a programming language that allows someone to create a mod that alters the interface or even use information from the game depending on Turbine’s preferences. Scripts like this are widely used to create mods for World of Warcraft and other games.

Before you freak out let me give you my experience using mods in World of Warcraft. For the most part, they are wonderful and optional. Not all mods are winners but find the ones you like and work well and you’ve got yourself a great enhancement to your game! Blizzard even takes successful mods and incorporates their functions into the base game from time to time when they find a mod that works really well and really improves the player experience.

I want to stress that this will only work with the functions and information in LOTRO that Turbine allows. We will have to wait and see what information is released regarding programming specifically for LOTRO mods but this is big news!

There are many helpful Lua Programming booksavailable out there for Lua scripting that may help you if you are interested in learning the language. There are some books specific to World of Warcraft scripting which you may want to avoid until we’re clear on what rules Turbine will set for us.

I’m very curious to see what mods players can come up with!

I have this recurring nightmare...

It’s not one where I actually fall asleep to have it, but instead one where all the crap hits the fan at once, and needs to be dealt with immediately. You see, for the last 3 weeks, I have been in negotiations, to start managing another account selling site, with the help of both my partners, as well as alongside that company’s workers. Today, the contract was signed, the dns switched over… and the bugs and suggestions began stacking up.

Great suggestions – (no sarcasm intended), but along with training the other guys and the bug fixes, I got to work almost non-stop for the first 10 hours. I usually work long hours, but I take mini breaks here and there. So today – as with the last few weeks, time has been straining me.

I am sure that with more time that it will all work out, but right now, it’s a recurring nightmare.

If you are curious which site it is, it’s Accounts.net. We have a lot of accounts, we need to get switched over to the new site, so right now, working with a skeleton amount of accounts. More fun for us, I am sure, for the next week, as we switch all the accounts over to the new site, from the old site o.O
