This is for the people who fell in love with the original EverQuest circa 1999, back when servers used to have 1500 people on, and that was considered very busy.  It was a time of mystery, and a time of strife, but best of all, it was before the developers came in and thoroughly screwed up the game.

Buy Gold and Credits

If you yearn for the days of yesteryear, and wish to play EQ, as it was before SOE made it into what it is now, then there is a busy server emulator waiting for your play.

Before I go into the the busiest server out there, let me make this disclaimer.  If you haven’t already done so, buy the software, and do SOE the favor of paying a monthly fee.  This makes everything legit, and allows the private servers to continue in peace.  If you can’t do that, at least buy the game, and support the servers with monthly donations.  This will help to keep them going.

At this point, you have a few options.  You can Buy Everquest: Titanium or download the game via torrent.  If you choose to download it, it’s a 3.5gb download.  Thats not much, considering how great a game it is, and nothing compared with the 100gb of todays games.

Once you have the software, you can choose to join someone elses’ server, check out this server list.  You can also choose to make your own server.  This can be for guild friends, the possibility of making some money, or just for your own fun and games. More info about the EQemu project is here.

If you have chosen to play on someone else’s server, then you will probably want to play on Project 1999.  It’s an emulated server letting people relive classic EQ, circa 1999.  It also has some great getting started guides.  If you choose to play a different server, you will still want to read this site, its a great resource and one heck of a community (not to mention the busiest server).

Sorry MQ2 devotees, MQ2 won’t work with it.
