I was making my Mike Oldfield page of listing a video for each song when a warning Av.exe is trying to do blah blah blah appeared,
I said to myself I’ve let avast do things before DON”T BOTHER ME NOW, I’M BUSY
so I clicked allow
and just like in a game had an “OH CRAP” moment
it said AV not Avast I have no av program
yep in my hurry and perhaps seeing only the first letters I let the Internet Security 2010 Virus into my systyem:(
This rogue runs, you cannot close it or remove from tray
it shuts down task manager
it shuts down other exe’s so if you try to start an anti malware or anything it doesn’t work
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010 has info about and how to remove it
I had to push the power button on computer to get out of the “loop” I was in Internet Security 2010 runs furiously saying you have dozens, hundreds of infections which only they can remove for a $, some people actually paid them, it did nothing but their credit card info on their computers was hacked and many received fraudulent charges to their accounts
So luckily I have two accounts on my pc,
so I went to the second user name and googled my problem and found:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010
Which said to use Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html which I use weekly so I did a full three hour deep scan and the 5 items show like in the guide and I remove them
I also do a full avast deep/total scan folders/archives everything another almost three hours
Sounds good right?
So I log off second user and get on first and discover that none of my 150? desktop icons (icons to sites, not to pc program) work, I do not have authority to use them…
So another search brought up Registry Edits for Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm which had a fix for my registry
So I admit I allowed the bug in,
my firewall WAS warning me, but others may not have that type of firewall and get this pain in the butt anyway so thought I’d share these fixes

I think you should also be worried, that whoever they are, they also took a screenshot of your desktop. I re-uploaded it here – http://www.4shared.com/file/246148451/eb9882d3/messy_wallpaper-1920×1200.html since the other site is unsafe for people who can’t turn off all scripts.
In a similar though not as severe occasion, my daughter put limewire on the other system. She is finally understanding my aversion to that program. She also allowed a virus in, which caused the system, to get stuck in an endless boot loop. Ended up fixing it with an Ubuntu bootable dvd, after 3 weeks. I told the kids the next time they crash they system, I am going to put Ubuntu on there permanently. I think the only one this would hurt would be my wife who plays online poker at times however.
Glad you got the mess sorted, it’s a hard lesson to learn but hopefully others will have read it and heed the warning.
I’m not sure what the messy wallpaper was about?
I remembered the firefox noscripts add on http://cnettv.cnet.com/8301-13415_53-10272468-11.html and added it
it’s in response to your 150 icons :p I thought my 30 was a lot!
for myself, legally blind it is easier seeing an icon even just seeing the colors help rather than say a list of bookmarked sites that list by text only
my fences http://download.cnet.com/Fences/3000-2072_4-10909535.html not only keep everything organized by my choice of headings but stay hidden when not in use
the other great thing about fences for a low vision person is have you ever tried different resolutions to improve seeing things? even with the lock icons to grid checked when you change the resolution the icons all lose their order clump up to the left, with fences they stay put and keeping the fences spaced at your lowest resolution, you never even have to tweak them again from where you placed them
a nice before/after info here: http://www.ehow.com/how_4776313_arrange-desktop-icons-stardocks-fences.html and the regular version is free
