One of the most interesting things about tribble breeding is that every tribble subspecies carries the DNA for all other subspecies. Which traits dominate is determined by how they are raised. Thus with proper care, one can obtain any type of tribble from any other tribble within a few generations.
The most important factor in determining a tribble’s characteristics is food. In general, a tribble of any given type will produce a specific type of offspring based on the food it is given, as shown in the table below. However, environmental factors, particularly overcrowding, can lead to different results. We have observed all of the following on our farm:
- Tribbles refusing to eat
- Tribbles eating but not producing offspring
- Tribbles eating entire stacks of food and producing a variety of offspring
- (Unconfirmed) Random mutations
