I realized as I was leveling Engineering on my Paladin, that I don’t have a guide up here for it. Having an Engineering leveling guide makes leveling cheaper. This will tell you where to get & which recipes make leveling fast, and cost effective. It will will help you achieve either Goblin or Gnome Engineering, along with leveling to 450.
In World of Warcraft, the Engineering profession enables players to create a variety of items, ranging from bullets and arrows to explosives and goggles. The difference with these crafted items, however, is that there are some that only characters with engineering skills can use, and some items are risky to use because there is a chance that they might backfire.
Engineering goes well with Mining since most of the materials you’ll need for Engineering can be harvested through Mining, so you might want to take the two of them together to save up on WoW Gold. Of course, if you don’t want to take up Mining, you can always buy WoW Gold to ensure that you have enough funds to buy your materials at the Auction House.
Proficiency
As with all professions, Engineering has six proficiency levels, which are listed in the table below. As you increase your character’s level and your Engineering skill level, you can increase your Engineering Proficiency by visiting an Engineering Trainer. While any Engineering Trainer in Azeroth can teach you Apprentice to Artisan Engineering, you can only learn Master Engineering in Outland or Northrend, and Grand Master Engineering in Northrend.
Training costs WoW Gold, and the prices differ depending on whether you chose Engineering as your Primary or Secondary profession.

Leveling Engineering
The first thing you need to do is to visit an Engineering Trainer in one of Azeroth’s main cities to learn Apprentice Engineering. This section contains a table that shows you which items to create to level up your Proficiency in the fastest, most efficient manner.
Most of the formulas for the items listed below can be learned from Engineering Trainers, but a few have to be obtained elsewhere.
If you haven’t opted to take up Mining as a secondary profession or if you’re just not feeling up to looking for reagents, you may want to buy WoW Gold so that you can purchase them from other players.

Engineering Specialization
Once your Engineering skill reaches 200 and your character is at level 30, you will be able to choose to specialize in either Gnomish or Goblin Engineering. The main differences between the two types are the locations of their teleporters and their trinkets’ abilities. For example, the Gnomish Poultryizer can turn a target into a chicken, while its Goblin equivalent, the Goblin Rocket Launcher, fires a rocket at an enemy to damage and stun them.
Below are the things you need to do once you’ve decided which specialization to go for.
Gnome Engineering
- You first need to get a referral from an Engineering trainer by accepting the “Gnome Engineering” quest. You will then have to go to see either Tinkmaster Overspark at Ironforge or Oglethorp Obnoticus at Booty Bay, depending on what the trainer tells you.
- Tinkmaster Overspark or Oglethorp Obnoticus will give you the quest called “The Pledge of Secrecy”. You will be handed an unsigned pledge and be asked to sign it.
- After signing the pledge, you will be asked to show some of your work. The table below lists the things you need to make and the materials you’ll need to craft them.
|
Items |
Materials Needed |
|
6 Mithril Tube |
18 Mithril Bar |
|
2 Advanced Target Dummy |
8 Heavy Leather 2 Bronze Framework 2 Gyrochronatom 2 Iron Strut |
|
1 Accurate Scope (Schematic is sold in limited supply by Mazk Snipeshot at Booty Bay.) |
1 Bronze Tube 1 Jade 1 Citrine |
- Once you’ve turned in the above items, you’ll become a certified Gnome Engineer.
Goblin Engineering
- You first need to get a referral from an Engineering trainer by accepting the “Goblin Engineering” quest. You will then have to go to see Nixx Sprocketspring in Gadgetzan.
- Nixx Sprocketspring will give you the quest called “The Pledge of Secrecy”. You will be handed an unsigned pledge and be asked to sign it.
- After signing the pledge, you will be asked to show some of your work. The table below lists the things you need to make and the materials you’ll need to craft them.
|
Items |
Materials Needed |
|
20 Big Iron Bomb |
30 Heavy Blasting Powder 30 Iron Bars 10 Silver Contact |
|
20 Solid Dynamite |
10 Solid Blasting Powder 10 Silk Cloth |
|
5 Explosive Sheep |
5 Bronze Framework 5 Whirring Bronze Gizmo 10 Heavy Blasting Powder 10 Wool Cloth |
- Once you’ve turned in the above items, you’ll become a certified Goblin Engineer.
Conclusion
Now that you know the most efficient way to level up your Engineering skill, you’ll get up to 450 in no time. You can use your nifty crafted items to help your party in raids, and even gain an advantage in PvP…so long as they don’t explode or backfire on you while you use them.
