Casual Stroll to Mordor
http://www.casualstrolltomordor.com/2010/07/lua-script-coming-to-turbine/

Posted on 13. Jul, 2010 by Goldenstar

Meghan “Patience” Rodberg was a special guest on Stuncast episode 5 released yesterday. Meghan announced (at about 37 minutes in) that LOTRO will be adding the use of Lua script to allow player created add-ons (called mods) for the game.

If you’re not aware, Lua is a programming language that allows someone to create a mod that alters the interface or even use information from the game depending on Turbine’s preferences. Scripts like this are widely used to create mods for World of Warcraft and other games.

Before you freak out let me give you my experience using mods in World of Warcraft. For the most part, they are wonderful and optional. Not all mods are winners but find the ones you like and work well and you’ve got yourself a great enhancement to your game! Blizzard even takes successful mods and incorporates their functions into the base game from time to time when they find a mod that works really well and really improves the player experience.

I want to stress that this will only work with the functions and information in LOTRO that Turbine allows. We will have to wait and see what information is released regarding programming specifically for LOTRO mods but this is big news!

There are many helpful Lua Programming booksavailable out there for Lua scripting that may help you if you are interested in learning the language. There are some books specific to World of Warcraft scripting which you may want to avoid until we’re clear on what rules Turbine will set for us.

I’m very curious to see what mods players can come up with!

I remember, ever since I was a little gnome about 6 inches tall, my mother used to tell me to never play with fire, it was bad.

Those days are long gone, though.  As I grew into the 3 foot tall, 20 pound elder gnome I am today, my love of fire grew with me.  Now, I don’t know if it was channeled by my anger at the fact that my hair naturally looks like small wings on the sides of my head.  It may have been, but who knows – it could have been my inner Warlock spirit begging to be set free.

Either way, I love fire.  And to share my love of fire with you, I’ve scoured the terrains of Azeroth, Outland, and Northrend to find all the places where you can play with fire too!

Maybe you’ll grow to love fire as much as I do.  :-D

The Midsummer Fire Festival is a time to rejoice for players who are currently leveling characters.  The festival allows you access to 2 huge leveling boosts for 2 whole weeks.

1.  You can gain a 10% experience boost when killing monsters for 1 hour – and you can get another hour boost when each boosts runs out. To get this boost, visit any Ribbon Pole at any of the bonfire locations. Dance around the Ribbon Pole for 1 minute while wearing your full Midsummer Fire Festival outfit.  The Achievements sections of the
Midsummer guide will walk you through collecting your full Midsummer Fire Festival outfit.

2.  You can gain a huge damage boost.  When you are in an area when your faction’s bonfire is burning (not stamped out by the opposing faction), you will gain a damage boost buff that will almost double the damage you do.

And lastly, but not least, you will earn almost 800 gold from simply completing the Midsummer Fire Festival guide (as a level 80).  It shouldn’t take you more than 3 hours to complete the Midsummer Fire Festival guide, so that totals up to almost 300 gold per hour!

No need to purchase any of my other guides that you can use to help you along your journey in World of Warcraft, such as Leveling and Dailies, Zygor‘s does it all for you.

I actually found this to be an interesting release of the iDemise leveling guide.  You see, they still use Tourguide.  Why is that so strange you might ask? Well Zygor picked up the exclusive rights to distribute Tourguide a month back, and has been forcing all other sites to take it down, or face copyright infringement.  So this means that by releasing their guide, iDemise is breaking copyright law.

from the website…

  • No more running about not knowing what to do next. You simply go and get on with ripping through your quests.
  • You get the xp by questing, not being bored silly grinding for those extra bars.
  • No need to work out detailed quest descriptions, you get to focus on tearing your enemies apart, decimating those who would stand against you.
  • A simple, easy to use interface that gives you the information you need, when you need it. No more spending hours scanning websites for information. Just spend your time exacting your vengeance on the unholy wretches who block your path.

If anyone has the Alliance version, please contact me.

On Tuesday, Zygor released his daily quest and events guide for the world to see.  Yes, there have been others before him who created the same kind of thing, but none of them had in game addons to direct you exactly where to go and what to so each time.  Following this guide you can earn 300 gold an hour – in 2 days have enough gold to buy a epic flying skill!

So you’ve fought your way through Azeroth, braved the dangers of Outland, and survived the frosty chill of Northrend. Now you’re wondering what you should do next? Well there’s a lot to do and Zygor is here to guide you through it all. Here’s a look at all you can expect from Zygor’s new Dailies and Events Guide.

Zygor claimed that they were doing something for their members, which was to release their guide in either the Tourguide or Zygor format.  Really, I think it was cutting the head off the snake, which is to say that they didn’t want anyone else to have an ingame interactive leveling guide.  For the most part, thats what it appears that they have done, as now other companies which sell leveling guides, based on tourguide can’t do it anymore.  This affects Joana, Spugnort, Brian Kopp (which is now owned by Spugnort), Dugi, and some others.  Continue reading »

This is our list of must have addons for Warhammer, and why we consider them must have.

Dammaz Kron, The Great Book of Grudges!

Intends to record all your PVP deaths, shared victories and deathblows in order to help you in revenging your grudges and knowing your enemies ;)
In this new part of the Tome of Knowledge, you can find all your last interactions entries split into 3 parts (Open RvR, Scenario and Overall). Each of those parts, display a list that can be sort up and down by Career, Name, Level, Deathblows, Victories, Deaths, Score or Date. Then by clicking on a Name, you can access to an enemy’s profile page and see his RvR stats.

  • Deathblows are added when you finish off an opponent.
  • Victories are added when you help to kill an opponent.
  • Defeats are added when an opponent kills you.
  • The score is the difference between deathblows and defeats.

I really enjoy this addon, it is helpful for when I am running around playing my Chaos Zealot and I get ganked near ORvR areas or just get very fed up with a White Lion in the Scenarios and come back with my Choppah.

Character View Expanded Stats (CaVES)

takes the five stats category groups that can only be viewed one at a time in the standard Character View and displays them all at once in a single window. This allows players to see the many stats that change and are affected by a single or multiple equipment changes as well as other stat modification events. CaVES is a perfect tool for all classes and all levels, allowing easier optimizing of all character stats.

Now THIS is a wonderful Addon. It helps me out greatly when I need to decide on which pieces of gear I should use, whether or not I should swap out my shiny RvR earned set for a seemingly better piece and if it’s worth losing the set bonus et cetera.

Kwestor

A widely customizable quest tracker, built to replace the built-in tracker. It allows you to…

  1. filter quests depending on zone, RVR status, status and more
  2. enables fully customizable sorting of the tracked quests
  3. auto hiding of quest conditions
  4. layout customization, including various colors, fonts and alignment
  5. ability to select objects “behind” the quest tracker frame
  6. easy access to full quest description in the tome

“Tired of the built-in quest tracker? Want more customization options? Want to click through the quests to target mobs and object behind the tracker? Install Kwestor!”

While I really, really love being able to click though the tracker and the better, refreshing look of it. However I am a little bothered by the size of the font as I haven’t really gone in and bothered trying to customize it perfectly.

LibSlash

A basic library for registering slash commands in the WAR interface.

With LibSlash installed, you’ll also be able to use /addon or /uimod to open the Addons window in-game.

This addon is a must have if you have other Addons relying on custom /slash commands. and the addon config command is very handy, however I have found that this does not work with some of the newer addons that have custom slash commands.

Squared

Squared is a highly-customizable unit frame addon similar to the widely-known WoW addon “Grid”. It provides a very compact view of health for you, your group, your warband, or your scenario. Clicking on a square will target the associated player.

This addon is simply beautiful. As a Zealot I am constantly buffing and healing people in warbands and parties, Squared makes selecting my group members and monitoring their health MUCH easier.

Squared – Healbot

SquaredHealBot provides mouse-click healing inside the Squared unit frames. You select a combination of modifiers, like ALT, SHIFT, CONTROL to be assigned to a certain spell. When you hold down those keys and left-click on your target, it will cast that spell on the selected target. If you have “clear target” enabled (it is off by default), it can clear your target after the spell has been cast. You cannot assign right-mouse clicks until Mythic allows it, but you can assign spells to any combination of modifiers and a left-mouse click.

Again, as a Zealot I am constantly buffing and healing, this addon makes it THAT MUCH MORE simpler and efficient to do. with a simple alt + click on someone’s name I am able to use my Dark Medicine ability right away and then click on someone elses name and cast Flash of Chaos to give them a quick patch over. VERY beautifully working addon indeed and highly recommended for people who constantly buff and have to interact with their warband.

Tome Titan

This add-on is designed to display data ingame in an easily readable format. It includes sections for Bestiary, Lore/History, Noteworthy Persons, Cultivation information, Lair Locations and Exploration/Pursuits information –with more categories planned on the way!
In short: Tome Titan is to help keep you from having to alt tab.

Features!

  • List all known Bestiary, History/Lore, and Noteworthy Persons unlocks.
  • You can toggle hiding completed entries!
  • Easily can be expanded to include any information you want!
  • Native support for popular Bar/Board add-ons!
  • Adds a button to your minimap for easy access — the button can be hidden via slash commands or moved via layout editor.
  • Constantly updating the Data files for known unlocks, check back often to stay current!
  • In game Change Log section accessed via the Tome Titan “FAQ and Credits” page will keep you up to date on all changes we make in each release.

I have saved the best for last, this addon makes gathering Tactics and Tokens such a breeze it’s ridiculous, the only issue I have with it is a few entries for unlocks are either vague or poorly written. A must have if you like becoming immersed in the Lore like myself. The unlockable perks aren’t bad either

If you have any other must have addons, please share them with us, and explain why they are on your must have list.

Created and Written by Cypher

Project:

LuaNinja

Purpose:

Disables the WoW API protection checks in order to allow arbitrary Lua code execution.

Detectability:

Unlike previous similar tools, this tool makes zero modifications or ‘hooks’ to WoW that can be detected by Warden in its current form. Unless I’ve overlooked something (which I’m certain I haven’t), in order for this to be detected the Warden dev would have to add a brand new feature to Warden to detect the special type of hook I’m utilizing, or find a bug in some of my module hiding code.

Lets be honest, the Warden guy is ridiculously lazy, so this should be safe for quite some time.

However, I obviously can’t guarantee anything, so as always, you use this at your own risk.

Notes:

If you’re wondering why I chose such a stupid name, it’s because I’m lazy and unimaginative, and the hack was designed to be ‘stealthy’ like a ninja. :p

One small issue is with the way a couple of Lua functions are implemented. Whilst pretty much all Lua functions use the same function to do the protection check, a couple have ‘inlined’ it (meaning rather than call the function they have duplicated the functionality). There are only a couple, and from memory they’re only some very new and very limited use APIs, however if you find one, please let me know and I’ll see what I can do about fixing it in the next version.

Usage:

Extract the hack to anywhere you see fit, run “LoaderGui.exe”*, and follow the example/instructions in the picture:
Click the image to open in full size.

Assuming all goes well and the loader gives no errors, you should be able to run any Lua script you want without restriction.** To test whether this is true, log into a character and run the following script:
“/script MoveForwardStart();”

If your character walks forward then it is working, if nothing happens or you get an error message, something may be wrong.

This does NOT require you to wrap your calls in any special function, you just write Lua the same way you normally would, except that protected functions should now be available. It should work anywhere (in the console, in addons, in macros, etc).

* You will need the .NET 4.0 Beta 2 framework. Available here.
** See Notes section for minor restrictions.

This is the most recent version of a famous leveling guide, which you could pay over $80 for.  This was made for World of Warcraft v3.3, and comes for both Alliance and Horde.  It is the complete 1-80 for both factions and will also list a few leveling talent configurations.  This is the guide, that I use, every time I play, to level.  I have used it on my rogue, deathknight, and now am using on my priest.  I zoom by other players when I use this addon.  I leveled my hunter without it, and it took 3x longer.  All I can say, is this is the leveling guide that you need.  They claim, you can level 1-80 in as little as 10 days, without rested xp – and checking my play time per level, I believe it.

As a bonus, it’s not just in English, they also have Chinese, Spanish, German, and many other languages.  I highly recommend this addon/guide.

This guide, Zygor‘s has been optimized for WoW.  If you like this guide/addon, please purchase it from the authors.

This new system allows a pre-leveled character to start using our guides much easier than ever before.  It also allows players to use Recruit-A-Friend and Heirlooms with the guides, as well as do other things in the game that could make the player get ahead of the guides. Such things like doing instances or pvp with friends, or simply getting unlucky with drop rates and getting ahead of the guide.

Nonetheless, when we released this system, it was meant to be a revolutionary leap for leveling guides, which would fix many major problems players were encountering with leveling guides as a whole.

Unfortunately, this new system did not come without snags.  The major problem with the system so far is that many quests in the game are part of “hidden” quest chains – meaning the quests may be unlocked by completing another quest or something, but there is no clear chain of quests, which you might see on wowhead.com, for example.

Obviously, this needs to be fixed in order for SIS to work at its full potential.  So, for the last week, our team has been focused on finding these “hidden” quest chains and tying them all together in our guides, so that SIS will work much more smoothly for you.

That’s what this email is all about.  We are happy to announce that both our Alliance and Horde leveling guides have had these “hidden” quest chains linked together for levels 1-60.

There are giests in Voltaris and they respawn REALLY fast. Well, guess what! You can park yourself right under one of the canopies, and murder them for hours for easy xp!

Check back with it every few minutes, and you can loot all the corpses to boot! Of course if one were to automate that process, who knows how long it could run, and how much money you could make.

It can be an insane Leveling and Farming spot.

Rampaging Geist‘s are level 70-76 and can be found in a small area.

Blight Geist‘s are level 74-75, and can be found in an even smaller area.

Note that both of these mobs are in a highly busy zone for toons leveling, so if you are on a PvP server, be careful of others in the zone and def watch your health a bit closer.

Most of the stuff they drop will be gray items, and since we don’t want to make too many vendor trips, be sure to use Lootfilter.

I decided to highlight this addon, because of a recent find in a new bot for World of Warcraft for leveling.  Unfortunately the bot doesn’t sell all the crap, buy what ever reagents you need, and repair all your gear yet.  This addon does all of that.

== Overview ==
Reagent Restocker is a simple addon for automatically purchasing items, selling unwanted items, and repairing.

Unlike many other similar addons, Reagent Restocker supports drag and drop and has a full GUI for editing buy/sell lists. Even thuogh it may be more useful to some classes than others, Reagent Restocker works for all classes.

This addon is of particular use to:

  • classes that use multiple reagents (Mages, Druids, etc.),
  • characters that like to have a stock of vials, flux, etc. on hand,
  • characters that always like to keep stocked on items like potions in their bank,
  • characters that do a lot of farming.
  • anybody who wants to keep a constant supply of some item buyable from a vendor.

You can download Reagent Restocker HERE

I don’t know if this applies to all servers, however I found a nice little niche that can net a 200%-250% return, off buying items off the AH.  However this requires mining.

Before I go into specifics, let me tell you about a great little addon, called Lil Sparky’s Workshop.  This addon will take your AH scans, and use the collected data, to tell you how much a item costs to make.  This is useful when you want to know if there is any profit to be made, when making items.  It will usually use the info, and display it in your crafting screen.  If something costs less to make, then you can AH sell, vendor, or disenchant, it will tell you.  This is how I found out about the quick tip I am about to share with you.

If you smelt your copper and tin, even if you buy it off the AH, or farm it yourself, bronze bars are going for about 2x-3x the cost of the ore for copper and tin.  This is a great little money making tip, that can help any low level toon, make some easy gold.  On my server (Dentarg-US-Horde) this means that the cost to produce a bar is 1 gold, and the price to sell each bar is about 3 gold.  Likely this will change, when Cataclysm is released, but for now, this is a GREAT WoW gold making tip.

When fishing in PvP zones or using bots, then it’s best to fish in hidden spots.  I have added 3 model edits, a WG auto accept script, and info on a bot here.  Personally, I don’t like using bots, and haven’t used any in a few years.  But if you’re using bots anyways, then this is definitely for you.  You can farm upwards of 500g an hour, afk with this.

If you are into crafting, and you want to hit 450, as quick and as cheap as possible, then there are 3 resources I recommend.  2 of them are websites, and the 3rd is an addon, that works well, in game.

WoW-Professions and WoWGuideOnline are pretty much the same thing, with little difference, except for the layout of the actual guides.  I have used Penn’s Ultimate Profession Guide as well, but it’s pretty much a regurgitation of the free guides – or maybe they are regurgitation’s of his guide, I am not 100% sure either way.

The other way I recommend, is with an addon, and it’s pretty much just a guide on what to craft, and how many items you will need, but there are no wowhead links, so if you want further information, you will need to look it up in your browser. WoW Professional, is really my choice to use, since it’s all in game.

A couple other addons I have found to be very helpful, especially when trying to get all the recipes are Ackis Recipe List, and Recipe Radar.  Ackis Recipe List, is great when you are doing research and trying to figure out whether or not you have any more recipes you need to learn, or where to go to get all the recipes.  Recipe Radar works similar in that it will tell you when a recipe is nearby, that can be bought, from whatever zone you are hunting in.  If you use it in conjunction with an auction program, you can see how much money you could make, if u resell the recipe.

I am a strong supporter of Zygor‘s Horde and Alliance guides.  Using them alongside Carbonite addon, has always been a wonder to me, but allowed me to level much quicker then just using Carbonite or QuestHelper.  On average, I can level 1-2 level s a day, even from level 70-80, using this guide. In fact, it’s the only guide I link to on this site, that I recommend people buy, because I use it myself.
