Soloing instances and Disenchanting drops has always been a nice way to make gold, Pre-BC people would farm Scarlet Monastery for Gold, but now, most every class can solo to at least Hellfire Ramparts (first Outland Instance). With this advantage, you should be able to look up on the AH which enchanting mats sells for the most. Then you can look up the material and learn what instance you should farm to get it. Almost all enchanting materials peak from time to time, as people leveling enchanting buy out the market. You, as an enchanter, should already know which enchanting material is rare and always in demand. If it’s been a while since you’ve leveled your enchanting, don’t fret. It’s really quite the same for every server. I’m going to go over all the different enchanting materials that I find the best to farm and where to actually farm them for maximum gold per hour. This is a game hack, which will allow you to see the exact time an auction will end, down to the second.  The benefit of having this information, is that you will be able to time your bids, on items, and not have to worry that someone is going to make a last minute bid on you, and take an item out from under your bids. World of Warcraft, is now working on a beta test, which will allow users to buy/sell their AH items via the Web or iPhone.  While it’s an ingenious idea, which will probably make many people happy, I see a more sinister twist, which will allow for non-stop farming of items.  The person bots a character, and then logs in to the web and auctions off all the items.

Instead of giving you a whole write up of how to make gold on your server – everyone has those, I wanted to mention a few auction house tips that will largely improve your game.

First, instead of using Auctioneer, use Auction Master. Both have similar functions, but Auction Master will do an item search whenever you list an item.  This way you know what the prices are now, not what the average or mean price is.  Also it will do a quick and dirty search to see if items are worth buying or bidding on, to resell to a vendor.  Last, it has the same functionality with other plugins, that use the tracked data, to maximize your profits.

Next, when you buy of the AH (this goes for all games), and you are leveling a skill, but the items over time.  Don’t go and buyout the AH, and then start asking for people to sell it to you – or worse come back the next day to get more of the items. We always want to leave a few stacks up, of the items we are buying.  This will keep the prices normalized.  If you instead buy everything out, then the prices will shoot higher, because there is no competition.  Also, if you buy out the AH, then even over the trade channel, no one will have an average or undercut price to go buy, in order to sell you their wares.  Instead, it’s better to not buy anything off the AH, and then ask for the items, in bulk off the trade channel, for less then the AH price.

When selling items on the AH, things get a bit trickier.  It helps to know the items we are listing, and also the chances are that it will sell.  In order to maximize profits, it’s a better idea to sell items in 24 hours, then 48 hours.  We lessen the amount of time, it also lessens the deposit amount, which we could lose if it doesn’t sell.  It also takes away the chances that your item(s) will be underbid.  We also should know what an item is commonly used for.  For example enchanting mats, are best sold in stacks of 4, 5,6, or 8 – as these are the common sizes for enchanting materials.  Now, if you had a daily quest item, for something like cooking, and you know that the amount of an item needed is 4, then sell in stacks of 4.  Another fine example are flasks, elixirs, and potions.  Sell potions in 5 per stack, and flasks and elixirs in 1-2 per stack. This will increase your chances of selling the items – especially right before a raid.  Remember that most raids tend to happen at night.  So put them up for 12 hour listings, starting in the early afternoon.

Also, remember that the neutral AH, charges a higher deposit.  The deposit is based on the sale price to a vendor.  So the best things to list up here, without losing the deposit, are undervalued items, or items which have no value, like Abyss Crystals.  Of course if you have them, you can also list cross-faction items, such as pets.  White Kittens sell great with Taurens.  However, it’s not a good idea to overload the neutral AH with them.  It’s better to in fact just sell 1-2 of each.

Here’s a guide which will tell you the cut and deposits from listing items on the AH as well as the neutral AH.

Auction Length Faction Deposit Faction Cut Neutral Deposit Neutral Cut
12hr 15% 5% 75% 15%
24hr 30% 5% 150% 15%
48hr 60% 5% 300% 15%

Remember, if an item doesn’t sell, then you lose the deposit.  This can be killer on the Neutral AH.

If you can craft Primal Mights, check your auction house to see what the prices are like. I find the over the weeks the prices fluctuate like crazy, so buy all the primals you can, when they are at their cheapest, and get crafting Primal might’s. I have been able to craft a few with the same initial investment of transmuting a cardinal ruby. But unlike epic gems, the primal might has no cooldown and can sell for over 200g.  Being a transmute master will help with the profit here.

Also the reason why these still sell is mainly because of people choosing the alchemy specialization, which required 4 primal might.

Remember there are 7 different types of primals.  Primal Air, Primal Earth, Primal Fire, Primal Water, Primal Shadow, Primal Life, and Primal Mana.  Primal Mana is usually the one most people forget, as there in no crystalized equivalent in WLK.

Check Sparky’s Workshop addon as well.  Can help in telling you whats profitable to make, and what isn’t.

We have all heard the “trick” of buying low and selling high.  With this little bug, you will be easier able to find cheaper auctions to buy, in order to sell for more, or even to better equip your characters at a low price.

This content is for members only.

The Auction House has a bug in the way it displays auctions.

When an auction is listed you can choose 8 hours up to 72 hours for a duration. When there are several pages of items, auctions are supposed to be listed with ones ending soonest on the earliest pages.
The problem is, the game uses the amount of time the auction has been on, so short auctions (like 8 hours) never appear on the front page.
Certain items like clothing, armor, and jewelry always have multiple pages.
Since the shorter auctions never come to the front page, most people don’t see them unless they fish through a number of (slow loading) pages to look for them.
Several pages back, you can find extra groups of auctions ending for each duration (8, 24, and 48 hour). Since not very many people see these auctions, you can get some incredible deals by just bidding the minimum.

Note:
Also keep in mind that if you are online at odd hours, even fewer people will be around to compete for the items that are ending. And when posting items, remember that they will only get to the first page if you use 72 hour listings. Also try to start your auctions at a time of day when the most people will see them and be on to compete when they are up to the first page.

1: Get 5 random people to Q up for a random dungeon (So you don’t have to wait).

2: Run to the enemy AH (Make sure your priest buddy is ready).

3: Your friend MC’s you and you use the dungeon teleport.

4: Inside you can have friends buff you, or in my case heal you every time you teleport back.

5: Teleport out of the dungeon and you will be in the AH again, kill do w/e and once bellow 50% hp, you get MC’d and back to the dungeon.

The LoTRO Auction House is a great way to make money and clear out some bag and vault space. Also the Auction House will help you to figure out what to farm to make  money the faster and more efficient way.  I have some guide lines I follow just to make it fair.  These are not mandatory, but I believe this is a fair way of doing business, and then I will tell you the greedy way. You make your own choice about which one you would like to use.

Fair Way

I have been told the fairest price to post items is 4-5 times what the vendor would buy for. There for a item selling to vendor at 5 silver would sell at Auction for 20-25 sp not a bad profit. But my opinion is 7 times the vendor price.  This is not too bad either, especially with the auction house prices these days.  Most people sell at 10-20 times the vendor price. Also selling at these lower prices means your items will sell almost immediately.

Not too Bad

This way is my common advice, before selling your item’s search the inventory of the Auction to see what other people have posted the same item for.  Now find the lowest price for the current number you have and subtract 5-10 silver from it and that’s what you post your item’s for. You’re just a little cheaper then the other guy so your item is almost always going to sell first, assuming a person hunting is not click happy and doesn’t check for lowest price.
Also if there is one item that is at least 40% lower then the rest of them, and the market is good (hides, gems, crafting items, etc.) go ahead and buy them out if the math comes out so you can drop the price 5sp below the other guys and end up making more in the end.  These are great investments.

This guide was written and created by the team over at Zygor’s guides.  All credit and rights go to them for this guide.

Overview

Lots of guides show you how to make gold in the game, but they tell you things that really cut into your leveling time. This guide is intended to show you ways to make lots of gold WHILE leveling your characters. The information in this guide will help you on your way to buying your talents, gear, and mounts on your way to level 80 using Zygor’s Leveling guide. So without further adue, lets get started.

Getting your upstart

We will start off with the basics of how to collect a decent pile of coins in the earliest stages of World of Warcraft. If you already have another character who can send you money then you do not need to read this section, unless you’re just curious.

Auction House Alt

After you create your new character you should begin leveling straight away, right? Actually, the first thing you should do is create another character and run them all the way to the nearest major city. For Alliance, we recommend making a Dwarf/Gnome and running them to Ironforge. For Horde, make an Orc/Troll and run them to Orgrimmar. Make their name something short and easy to remember because whenever you need to sell things at the Auction House or send things to your main character you will use this character. You don’t want the name to be long to type of hard to remember when you send stuff to the alt via the mailbox.

Now that you have your alt character, start questing with you main. At the beginning you will get a lot of trash items and should basically sell these items to vendors to start generating money. We recommend the addon Sell-O-Matic which will place a single button on the vendor sell screen that automatically sells all gray items for you.

Eventually you will start getting Small Eggs, Stringy Wolf Meat, and Chunks of Boat Meat off mobs. Send these to your alt to sell on the Auction House. They pretty much always sell regardless of the servers economy.

Bigger Bags

One of the few things that it is ok to spend your money on is more inventory space (Bags). Most of the stuff you can make money on while leveling is collected while questing, so the bigger the bags the better the haul you can ship to your Auction House Alt.

Do Not Buy Gear!

One of the biggest money sinks in the game is actually a players own compulsive nature to spend, spend, spend at every oppurtunity, especially when it comes to gear. When using Zygor’s Guide you will level up so quickly that the gear you buy will become outdated very fast. The gear you get for rewards should suffice for the most part. Only buy gear if you start having a hard time killing mobs or surviving in fights. We recommend buying a new gear only every 10 levels or even longer if you can manage.

Do Not Buy Every Spell

A lot of players have the bad habit of going to their class trainers every two levels and buying every new talent that is available to them. Generally, this is not nessasary since only a handful of talents have real use while leveling.

Get Two Gathering Professions

The only professions worth considering until you reach 80 are the three gathering professions: Skinning, Herbalism, and Mining. We recommend taking at least Skinning because it skills up faster and you get more skins than you will herbs or minerals. Sell all your stacks on the Auction House.

60 Borean Leather turns into 10 Heavy Borean Leather which in turn can be turned into one arctic fur.

Your snatch list should look like this:

X = 75% Normal Arctic Fur Price
Arctic Fur = X
Heavy Borean Leather = X/10
Borean Leather = X/60

You can tinker with the value for arctic fur as much as you want, but be sure to use the altered X to determine how much you want to pay for the leather on your snatch list. Keep up to date with the current value of arctic furs and update the list frequently.

Currently, you can use percentages of market values in auctioneer to determine price, but there’s no way to say always buy borean leather that is 1/60 the price of 75% of the price of arctic furs. You’ll need to update the list about twice a week to keep an eye on arctic furs as they will probably continue to decrease in value over time.

It can get annoying typing out the full name of an item in the ‘Buy’ tab, especially when the names are all case-senstitive and can be quite long. Here are two quick tips to speed up the process.

a) If you have an item in your inventory and want to do a quick ‘Buy’ search to see how much it is selling for, simply ALT + Left Click the item in your inventory and the search bar will be auto-filled with the complete item name.

b) If you don’t happen to have an item in your inventory but know its name, you can simply enter the first letter of each word (capitalized) in the search box. For example, you can search ‘T S L J’ instead of Thin Soft Leather Jerkin. Some item names share the same initials, so you can narrow the search by adding a second letter in lower-case. For example, ‘M W F’ will result in Major Weapon Flux and Minor Weapon Flux. If you only want Major Weapon Flux, search for ‘Ma W F.’

Right now, on most servers, people have mining for gold farming, they might even have herbalism… but the thing is, right now, those lower level herbs, are going for a lot.  If you have a stash of herbs, go ahead and start getting rid of them.  Once Cataclysm is released, and flying is allowed in Old Azeroth, then those same low level herbs will be farmed more extensively.  For now however, those herbs are making bank for people.  So sell your low level stashed herbs, and make money too.

Tip: If you have Inscription, make and sell Armor Vellum III.  These are the most profitable Inscription recipes on any server.  You can often buy the ink right off the AH, make the Vellum’s, and sell them for a much higher price.
